Kitulo National Park
Dabbed on the southwestern corner of Tanzania, this heavenly park is dotted with meadows and isolated valleys. It is particularly famous for 40 species of orchids, which blemishes its grasslands along with irises and geraniums. The rainy season from December to April is the best time to visit, when the park looks like a palette of vibrant colors. Dry seasons are also nothing short of magnificence, when hills shrouded up in various shades of blue and purple. It is best advised that you bring your own food and camp beds because the park is untainted to a larger extent, and a compass is vital indeed to keep track of the direction, because the park has got a labyrinthine trait.
This small under developed island has a glorious past. It was once the stronghold of sultans and was focal point of trade in the mainland which connected Shona Kingdoms and gold mines of Zimbabwe with Persia and other South Asian countries.
This UNESCO protected site has some of the best remnants of the Swahili civilization on the East African coast. 12th century buildings abound, most of which have been successfully restored. The highlight is the 15th century Great Mosque whose towers and arched roofs still stand gloriously. Although there are no lodging facilities on Kilwa Kisiwani, but the gateway town of Kilwa Maosko is swayed with decent hotels and is well-connected by air to Dar es Salaam and neighboring islands.
Serene and uncrowded, The Mafia Archipelago is the ideal destination to unwind. Meander on the sandy shores lined by the coconut palms on the main island of Mafia. Explore the time warped Chole Island, and its 19th century ruins. Take a short voyage across to Jibondo- popular for boat building. On the other hand cruise out for a morning of snorkeling around Mange, an unblemished sandbank inhabited just by sand crabs and encompassed by clear waters. Mafia is just a 30 min flight away from Dar es Salaam or Kilwa. The main island has few up-market hotels in Utende; the town which overlooks Chole Bay
