Bahia del los Piratas is undeniably the best-kept secret of Costa Rica, but it’s not long before it gets marred by the crowds. Many intrepid travelers bump down the back roads to lie on the pink sands, soaking up the sun. The popping out rocks is a treat, which was once the hide spot for pirates. Only few villas and resorts dot the mountains and dry forests around this tropical paradise. Also, the gentle waves make the waters perfect for families to frolic in.

A perfect place where you can lie down on the sands, whole day long. Samara showcases a bohemian spirit and has quite an animated nightlife. The local artists tout their works on the breezy shores of this 7km long inlet swayed by slender palms on one side and marked by vibrant coral offshore- A haven for snorkelers. Five mile southwards is the yet another dazzler; picturesque fishing village of Playa Carillo.

A cluster of four spectacular beaches - Pelada, Playas Guiones, Ostional and Nosara – on the Nicoya peninsula is the spiritual home to adventure junkies, yoga enthusiasts or anyone seeking a rejuvenation of the soul. Even though it does not have the best roads in the world, but you will enjoy travelling in the dirt roads which connect the beaches.

Towards the north of Nosara beaches; San Juanillo is an unblemished fishing village. Coconut palms and almond trees are speckled across its white sands, and the surfs are calmer, courtesy to the immaculate coral reefs. The beach is backed up by dramatic cliffs which almost split the beach into two parts, seemingly the divider rock has become a much enchanted sunset point.

Just 45 minutes drive towards the south of Malpais, across the fishing village and a graveyard, only few lucky explorers are blessed enough to know about this concealed cove. Popularly called a ‘Secret beach’, Playa Cuevas is swayed by almond trees and is backed up by rocky cliffs. A perfect haven for passionate couples, however the best part is the sunset when the white sands acquire various shades of ochre.
